essbeejay: saving the world. (saving the world.)
It's been awhile since I had one of these. I've lost some of the finer details (it's been almost 4 hours since I woke up) and it wasn't that long to begin with in the first place.

Essentially, Brick is doing something that involves going into an alternate hellish dimension in order to save everyone/everything (the opposite of what he usually would do, you know). The only one who knows about it is Boomer, who is also the only one capable of bringing Brick back into the "right" dimension. And the only way they can communicate is via this book (IDK, it's a dream, guys) where Brick's thoughts/whatever he says shows up as text on the page, and that way Boomer can keep track of him and bring him back when things get hairy.

But Blossom gets suspicious of Brick disappearing all the time and figures he and Boomer aren't trustworthy, so she locks Boomer up at a time when Brick is unfortunately in the alternate world and the book is left forgotten somewhere. And then the rest is text - Brick's thoughts showing up and saying "It's getting dangerous, you have to get me out of here soon," "Where are you," etc., etc., followed by the realization that something has happened to Boomer and the story ends with Brick stuck in alternate hell-world forever. Yeah, it was a happy dream.

I woke up and thought about turning it into a fic for like five seconds but scrapped the idea because I'm not willing to work out all the finer points (why is Boomer the one who can bring Brick back, how does the book work, blah blah blah). But I really like the aversion of the more typical (or, at least, what I consider more typical) track a better-written PpG/RrB fic would take - that is, you expect the boys to be doing something shady or have some ulterior motives when they get on friendly-or-possibly-more-than terms with the girls, then go through the whole betrayal and its aftermath. Here the boys are actually, genuinely good (which is generally something you see in, er, "lesser" PpG/RrB fic), but the girls never quite get over their distrust of them, and wind up doing harm when they mean to be doing good.

Averting the betrayal aspect of better-written PpG/RrB fic and subverting the RrB-are-good-and-trustworthy-now aspect of poorly written PpG/RrB fic. Yeah, if I had the time and patience, I'd totally attempt this.
