Go! Do it to it, Girls!
Today's Song Post Sunday is a legit song, but because it's getting increasingly harder to find I thought I'd take the liberty of uploading it for all to share.
Girls Against the World by The Quick
Back when The Powerpuff Girls Movie was coming out, CTN launched a ridiculous marketing strategy that basically involved bombarding the network with all sorts of promos for the film. A good number of the promos were great (and some of them very beautifully designed), but they were kind of preaching to the choir. There was a late night ad I recall seeing on the weekends on TNT, which just made me go "WTH? Who are you marketing this movie to, WB?" I guess they were trying to reach the cool, ironically hip crowd... since we spend so much time watching late night movies on TNT. (I was 14 at the time. Even then I didn't know what the hell they were thinking.)
Anyway, here's the extended promo featuring the song. I fell in love with this song for reasons that are obvious to me; I love the sound, I love the vocals, I think it really fits the energy and overall feel of the film. It's pretty much a straight up summary of the movie in song form.
The Quick have essentially disappeared off the face of the planet; they used to have a profile on mp3.com and this song was available there as a free download when the movie came out, which is how I managed to get it in the first place. At the end of the day it's not mind-blowing or anything, but for me it's pretty much... infused (ooh, my buzzwords!) with the essence of the film, which is in itself sort of a culmination of the series. For me. That is. (Particularly when you compare it to that insipid "That's What Girls Do" song by No Secrets that played over the credits. I admittedly have it and do think it's fun, stupid pop, but its message is so irritatingly anti-feminist that I can't help but grind my teeth every time it comes up on my playlist.)
Enough of my blathering. Enjoy!
