I am breaking my hiatus to make a very important announcement

Look everyone, I just wanted to say that please do not spend your money to go watch The Last Airbender. Besides the whole [livejournal.com profile] racebending thing (and yes, I've been on their side for this whole debacle), the film itself is an affront to anybody who enjoys story and character and sense. Yes. SENSE.

It is so awful. I am not even joking. I've seen it. It is so awful. I can't even fathom encouraging people to just go and see how awful it is for themselves, because not only would I be encouraging people to torture themselves - that would increase its box office revenue, and if its box office is increased then that might mean we'll have to endure a sequel, and God, trust me, nobody wants that. You do not want that.

This movie currently has a 6% rating on rottentomatoes.com. Six. Percent. I've stated before that I'm all about forming my own opinions about a film, but seriously: SIX PERCENT. And I've seen it. Six percent is very fair. It really is that awful.

I had my issues with the series, but no, those are nothing compared to this atrocity. If you really, really need to see it, just watch the trailer. I promise you that those are the best moments the film has to offer. And then go watch the series again. Watch the episode you hate the most. I guarantee you it will still be 1000x better than The Last Airbender.

Back later

I haven't seen it yet, but I kind of assumed it would be bad just from what I was hearing. It is Shaymalan. I tried very hard not to bash the movie because of name pronunciations or some such nonsense, but I have not heard good things.

I've heard the completely butchered character development, took out pivotal scenes or characters from the series and just totally ruined the fierceness of the firebenders. It's like hearing about Dragonball: Evolution all over again (Dear Lord, that was a BAD movie...my poor Goku was slain in that movie).

What really gets me upset is that he completely cut out the Kyoshi Warriors! WHAT. THE. HELL.

Yeah, so, maybe I'll wait for the dollar theater to release it or something.

I couldn't even see the Dragonball movie, just, even the previews were too bad to me O.o

I watched it online...I didn't waste any money on it. Dear Lord, it was bad.

I had forced myself to forget about every movie he'd made since Unbreakable. That was a bad idea.

I actually understand his reasoning for the "correction" of name pronunciations (respect for the language of origin), but when you watch the film it isn't even freaking consistent. "Avatar" is pronounced two different ways, and while they make such a big deal of pronouncing Aang's and Sokka's name "correctly" (the latter of which I'd seriously question), they still fuck up "Yue" by making it two syllables and "Yin" and "Yang" by giving them the wrong vowels. If he's going to make such a big deal of how much "better" the movie is than the show at cultural accuracy, he better damn well get everything right. But he did the exact opposite. IN EVERY RESPECT.

As far as viewing it yourself goes, good plan. (You still might want to demand your dollar back.)

WHY BOTHER HAVING RESPECT FOR THE LANGUAGE OF ORIGIN IF YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE SKIN COLOR OF ORIGIN *gnash rage flail*
