Little Boxes

"She filled it with kisses for you."
Boomer looks up from his guitar and misses a note.
"What?" he asks, brow furrowed and feeling, for all that he loves her, slightly annoyed. He had a good groove going there.
Bubbles mimes zipping her lips shut just as a little glowing blue explosion of happiness (otherwise known as Beatrice, otherwise known as Bea, otherwise known as His Little Bee) barrels into his chest, sending his instrument careening into her mother's expecting arms.
"Daddy, Daddy!" His Little Bee thrusts her tiny wooden jewelry box against his chest, her blue eyes bright and earnest. Bea's warm, tiny hands wrap around his neck, and she giggles as he opens the box. Her little ballerina rights itself and pirouettes dutifully, but save for that, every little corner of the box is completely empty.
Well, not completely.
Boomer grins. "What am I gonna do with all these?" He punctuates each word with a peck for His Little Bee. "How—am—I—ever—going—to—use—all—these—kisses—of—yours—up?!”
Beatrice squeals delightedly, “You can share them with Mommy!”
He stops and looks at Bubbles, who flutters her eyelashes demurely.
“Our daughter's a genius,” he whispers, setting Bea on the floor so he can pull Bubbles close.
“She gets that from my side,” she says, a smug smile on her face.
