Nothing new to report

Only that I finished my rewrite of the next next chapter (ch11) and am feeling pretty chuffed about it, despite how long it took.

I did that thing where you read through the chapter once, smile at the good stuff and cringe at the bad, then go back to the beginning and do a more thorough, close read, stopping along the way anytime you cringe. Anytime you make a slightly sour face, in fact. Doesn't have to be a full cringe. Even a 10% cringe warranted a stop. And then I rewrote and chopped and cut until I could read it without cringing.

So I did that for a few weeks, until I got to the end. Then I went back to the beginning and did my final, most recent readthrough. I smiled a lot. I read page after page, maybe tweaking a word or two here and there, and then I hit a spot that just sunk. The funny thing about working on something to get the rhythm right is that when you go back and read over what you've managed to make better, hitting something that was only acceptable before in its mediocrity really sticks out and instantly drags the whole thing down. Like, it wasn't quite cringe. Maybe the equivalent of the :\ emoji. I did that. I read it over. I tried rewriting it. Got stuck on it for a couple of days. And then I cut it. And it was better. And now it's done.

Well, first rewrite round's done, anyway. Now it'll sit in my outbox, waiting for beta.

Ch11a is next, but I'm thinking of taking the rest of the week off. These rewrites are kind of exhausting and there's plenty else going on. I'm catching up on GoT and have been skipping out on my PT. And RL certainly never stops.

This was a very mellow post. Hope everyone out there is doing well. ♥
