Spent too much time today reading Oscar 2018 Hot Takes

This is Old Internet, but I felt like sharing it today. Maggie Stiefvater put up a post last year about her experience with piracy and its direct impact on non/sales of her books. It's an interesting read. Also kind of depressing when you take into consideration the complete entitlement that possesses people.

I love all the "um check your privilege starving artist some people are POOR did you ever think of that are you saying poor people don't deserve to have fun" comments when the whole point of the post was proving that a vast majority of piracy is by people who can and will just buy it if a pirated copy isn't readily available. And by love I mean uuighhjgghhuuuuhh

I'm glad to see the more recent rebagels/comments are supportive of the original post - but ooh, when I first read it a few months back, plenty of the folks weighing in with their expertise made the veins in my eyeballs want to pop

also appreciate all the librarians weighing in and saying "hey uh you can go to your local library and request they get certain books, you know" because AS IT TURNS OUT there is a totally legal way for you to read the books you want without having to pay for them! WILD MAN
