Just an Old Woman Bitchin', move along

The whole portmanteau'ing of ship names in fandom annoys me. It came from anime ships and in Japanese it at least makes sense – the language lends itself to meshing two names together because of the way it's structured.

You know what language doesn't? Fucking English!

Okay, it doesn't make me miserable, and I'm not judging anyone who portmanteaus names together, especially since fandom as a whole appears to have accepted that this is just a thing we do with ships now. My gripe is purely from a superficial and aesthetic standpoint. A simple “x” or “/” between the names serves nicely. It's clean, it's clear. ButchxBlossom just reads so much better to me than Butchossom, or Blossomutch, or whatever that ship name would be in this fancy new world of portmanteauization. BoomerxButtercup vs. Boomercup/Buttermer?/Bummer. Okay I take it back, Bummer is a pretty good ship name.

Some names obviously lend themselves to this shit better than others (Stevonnie comes to mind). Anyway. Off my BOFQ soapbox. You kids have your fun. Never let old people ruin that for you.

I have to admit I'm on the same 'have fun y'all but I'm So Not Into It' thing. I don't get it. Sometimes it makes like. A funny pun or sounds weird and funny, or people do the thing where it's words put together and it's funny or memorable? But I really just prefer the simple / or x. I'm just lazy, to be honest. I want it to be simple haha.

You're not alone in being annoyed. Some of them sound so...unpleasant; not the ship itself, but the portmanteau has a horrible mouthfeel.
