There were two hundred and seventy-six steps between Mojo's front door and the ground. Brick walked all of them. It was almost a trip, approaching the ground so slowly. He considered taking off several times, but he had made a commitment the moment his foot had hit the first step and had resolved to see it through. The gesture carried weight, he felt. Maybe this would be his life's work. Maybe it would be an education. Maybe he was going to learn something on this two hundred and seventy-six step journey.
He did not. So he took another six hundred and fifty-eight steps.
