Plugging! Also more songage!
I'm not sure who's on who's flist anymore, but just wanted to bring some PpG-related things happening on lj to everyone's attention:
And as for me, well, all you hotties out there get more from my PpG-related playlists 8B
Because the AC adapter for my big machine has died and I'm trying to go easy on Captain Sparklypants (given the previous issues I'd been having with it), no uploads today. SAD, I KNOW. Also, I wanted to go with a theme this time (well, mostly - but consider the tap dancing a beautiful little bonus). My theme? A few of the fucking fem-tastic songs on my playlist. The ones that make me happy to have the Girls and happy to be agirl woman, whatevs, and that can't help but make me feel a little bit better about myself and the world and the things I can do in it.
I've already posted Girls Against the World, so just assume that sucker starts off our list. NOW.
The majority of the songs that fall into this category are also usually on my Bubbles playlist. If you need to ask why, you're probably new to my lj. Hi there!
Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae
I swear, this song is Bubbles' walking music. Like, she walks past and the world bursts into this song behind her. She wakes up to this song every summer morning on the radio. She blasts it on the stereo when she's feeling down. She belts it out to her sisters when they're feeling down. AND THEN THEY ALL GO FOR A WALK AND BUBBLES IS IN THE MIDDLE HOLDING HER SISTERS' HANDS JUST SINGING THIS SONG AND BLOSSOM AND BUTTERCUP ARE JUST PRETENDING TO HUMOR HER BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY FEELING SUPER HAPPY AND LOVED. It's so sweet.
Bonus material: Judge all you want, but I also really fucking love the version covered by The Chipettes in The Squeakquel. Yeah, you read that right. But for srs, I really like this more pop-y arrangement too. I DON'T DOUBT BUBBLES WOULD HAVE THIS QUEUED UP ON HER IPOD AS WELL.
(And before you ask, yes, it was about as good as you would expect a CG chipmunk movie to be. But it had Single Ladies in it! THAT ALONE WAS REASON ENOUGH FOR ME TO WATCH IT.)
Nee by Perfume (THAT'S RIGHT MORE J-POP BITCHES)
So the thing about Perfume is I'm kind of in fucking love with them. Their sound is so upbeat and fun, their fashion sense is to die for (seriously, whoever styles them is my idol), their choreo is a joy to watch, and the girls themselves are just SO FUCKING ADORABLE (the choreography @ 2:14!!! SO GD CUTE!!!). The overall attitude plays a large role in the inclusion of a lot of the j-pop on my playlists, and Nee is one of the rare occasions where the translated lyrics actually fit. This is another one on my Bubbles playlist, and I can't help but picture her fronting this whole mess with some adorably girly silly dancing while Blossom gracefully gussies it up and a grumbling Buttercup obliges them both. Totally a winter song; Bubbles drags them out for hot chocolate and a day on the town with this playing in her head. (Enjoy the song while it's up; Perfume stuff gets ripped off the web faster than you can say "Christian Louboutin.")
Mr. Blue Sky by E.L.O. (and covered by Lily Allen)
There is a reason I include both. You see, I could listen to E.L.O.'s Mr. Blue Sky for the rest of my life. I seriously could, I love it that much. I love it so much that it was one of the first additions to my TEF playlist - Blossom's Dance playlist. After countless listens I started to envision her choreographing a tap dance to this song (involving the rest of her hs dance team as well) with umbrellas as props (totally Gene Kelly's fault, and yes, this does get ridiculously complicated in my head but it is also AWESOME in my head). (EDIT: I HAVEN'T WATCHED GLEE IN OVER A YEAR SO I WAS NOT AWARE THEY'D ALREADY DONE UMBRELLA CHOREO. OKAY NOT LIKE IT'S THAT OUTLANDISH A THING BUT STILL.)
Because it isn't at all crucial to TEF it never made it to the page. A few years later, a friend introduced me to Lily Allen's cover, which I promptly fell in love with and then worked into Blossom's repertoire as an updated, hip-hop inspired "cover" of her original choreo (she does E.L.O.'s version as an underclassman and then this is like one of her final Senior dances or something - CALLBACKS, MAN, I LOVE 'EM). Again with the umbrellas, again with some of her original tap steps, and possibly with a very brief Brick cameo where she breaks form to do a little ballroom with him (note: this is not a spoiler for TEF at all).
And as awesome as all that is NOW PUSH IT ASIDE. Because Bubbles is jacking her sister's umbrella and taking the lead, tipping her head back to drink in the sunshine, rocking this dress, and skipping down the block with her sisters in tow and this song painting the backdrop of their day. And man, their smiles (perhaps a smirk, in Buttercup's case) are infectious, and they are OWNING THIS DAY WITH THOSE EXPRESSIONS, LET ME TELL YOU. Monsters and supervillains can't match this shit. THEY'RE UNTOUCHABLE ♥
THANK YOU ALL FOR INDULGING ME. "Hey there, Mr. Blue, we're so pleased to be with you...!" is totally going to be on my next Bubbles icon.
