And all at once I knew, I knew at once

Today's song comes from my Blues playlist (it would've been Greens, but with my music scattered all over the place I'll need another week to dig up the particular song I was planning to post). It's originally from the live-action Popeye film, but I first heard it in Punch-Drunk Love, which, for the record, is one of my absolute favorite films.

He Needs Me (sung by Shelley Duvall)

I basically read this as a song about a girl loving a mentally deficient boy. It could probably be applied to any het ship involving Bubbles, but the lyrics convey a certain innocence about the object of her affection that I think works especially well for the Blues.

This particular version of the song is from Popeye; I don't yet have the (only very) slightly altered version Jon Brion (of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fame, another one of my absolute favorite films) did for Punch-Drunk Love.

Enjoy! I really do adore this song; it is extremely, extremely sweet.
